With the understanding that academic foundations support future endeavors, Cornerstone Learning also aims to inspire students with practical applications of lessons. By building upon students’ knowledge and combining the Growth Mindset with Teaching from Every Angle (TEA), Cornerstone Learning aspires to reach students who may have lofty goals or have otherwise given up on learning.
Growth Mindset involves a combination of motivation to work hard with a desire for knowledge. While this exercise in perspective is not exclusive to Cornerstone Learning, we apply the Growth Mindset with students to break down learning barriers and begin building connections. Those connections are solidified through the contextual embedding of the knowledge. Cornerstone Learning’s proprietary Teach from Every Angle method involves realistic scenarios and situations in which knowledge can be applied. By making the learning real to students, their memories are granted more pathways to retrieve the lessons should they ever need that knowledge.

Working with a tutor is a significant time commitment and financial investment for a family. That’s why every tutor arrives on time and is fully prepared for each session. All Cornerstone Learning tutors are background-checked and have mastered the subject(s) being taught. Our tutors are also local to the Portland metro, so they’ll be familiar with the school districts, requirements, and teachers where you live. Additionally, while knowing the subject matter is vital, so is the ability to effectively teach the subject matter, no matter how basic or advanced the concept may be. Our tutors are trained to be the best, connect with students, and leave lasting impressions about learning.

Understanding
Knowledge of individual material and formulas is only helpful with context. Proper grasp of the subject matter can express the formulas and materials without rote memorization. We aim to meet your goals while preparing students for success without support.
Unity
Just as education disciplines are not separable, Cornerstone Learning is a community. Tutors and students are encouraged to help one another. For instance, Geometry proofs teach linear argument construction, as Chemistry can teach cooking skills. Creating and maintaining these links to practicality boosts confidence and solidifies universal appreciation for learning generally and individual lessons absorbed.
